Design Thinking

Great ideas can come from anywhere. This is why I am a firm believer in design thinking and design methodologies. I help begin projects on the right foot by using design sprints and other design methodologies.

Getting the entire team to be involved with the project from the very beginning is key to building a unified understanding of the problem. Moving from user interviews and analysis into ideating is where design can get messy. But the messy part is also the fun part. I advocate for the the entire team to be a part of the process – getting them to pitch their solutions to the problem. This results in a whole range of unique ideas.

Once all the ideas are on the table I turn to narrowing the focus to a few key ideas. This is where the team is involved to pick the best solution for the problem. I'll combine the key ideas into a coherent storyboard. Once the team has validated storyboard I can move into executing a higher fidelity concept. This concept is best created as an interactive prototype that simulates the proposed solutions behaviors.

UX

I'll test the prototype with end-users to get real feedback to see if the solution is heading in the right direction. From there we can determine what sort of modifications the solution needs before jumping into the development stage.

Once development has finished and the solution is launched a feedback stage begins. This feedback comes from the users and other stakeholders in the project. It completes the cycle of design thinking and user concerns are used to kick start the cycle again and improve the product.

Retail Point of Sale App for Enterprise

This app is the leader in customer and sales management for the wireless retail industry. It boasts hundreds of screens and tens of thousands of daily users. I worked as a Product Designer on it for a few years to help improve the overall user experience of this complex app.

Although it is a large enterprise app used by business to manage and maintain their businesses, I kept a focus on the design details that other enterprise apps lack. Contextual buttons, amusing icons and customization options are all elements that I ensure make it into the final product.

As the Head of Product Design I help keep this product evolving while helping grow the product ecosystem this app created for our users.

Retail POS iPad App for Enterprise

This iOS app is a thinner variation of the Windows app I designed. It allows our retail stores to run a mobile point of sale on their iPad.

As a Product Designer on this app I aimed to reduce only the primary flows used from the larger affiliated Windows app. They were then translated to adopt a user-friendly iOS design language.

As the Head of Product Design I continue to help ensure this app is simple and versatile for our customers.

Iconography

Products, brands and even people can use icons to speak across cultures without requiring an interpreter.

The language of iconography works best if it is designed specifically for the person or company using it. Stock icons may look nice, but they could be saying the wrong thing to an audience.

These are some of the icons I have created for various products.
